Downloadable files are below ⬇️ After discussion with the Victorian Piping and Drumming panels, we are evolving the mass band repertoire in Victoria through removing some tunes and including others. Two main reasons for the change are to refresh the current repertoire. Second is to better accommodate our players. Approximately a third of our members are under 18 years and some have found the musical demands of playing more difficult scores more challenging. With more regular public performances now such as the Tartan Day parade and playing at six full band contests plus mini band contests, along with ANZAC day and the Gay Pride march, PBV members and are audiences would benefit from developing musical our repertoire. Many of the massed band tunes also form the basis of performances pieces for bands in all grades. The ‘bread and butter’ tunes for players in bands. Sometimes in contests, but often at practices, street parades and all the various types of band playouts and concerts our musicians perform at each year. Further, massed band tunes also important for solo work for beginners in piping and drumming. The process of changing the tunes started back in September 2024 with a discussion in the Piping Panel which was reported to members at the November Council meeting along with expressions of interest for input from PBV members. The Piping Panel has gone through a rigorous tune selection process and discussion on settings. The tunes were then submitted to the Drumming Panel for further discussion. Developing our musical repertoire therefore will help develop music across the State. A few caveats first.
It is the aspiration of the panels to have at least two of these tune-sets ready for the Bendigo contest in November and Daylesford in December this year.
